GPS tracker, plotting and navigating your global movement

You’re aware that GPS tracker navigations systems are in the spotlight these days, but there are tasks that are still better served by the simpler GPS tracker. A few years ago, when GPS technology finally began to become more affordable (or should I say: less expensive) the first commercial GPS units would only provide the actual coordinates of the GPS receiver. By today standards, those were pre-historic units… but that’s how it all started.

It wasn’t long before the first "GPS tracker" handheld units offered tracking. These navagation units did not possess any large memory capacity to store maps (let alone all the roads in a single country), but they did posses the capability to store several waypoints, and track your path along the way. Once you entered those waypoints, navigating to and from, was rather easy. Sure, this wasn’t very useful for city driving, but it made maritime and aeronautic navigation leap forward a thousand years.

In place where you’re not constrained by roads, GPS plot trackers are as effective as the navigation system you have in your vehicle. Of course, every new generation of GPS systems comes with a lot of enhancements and new features, but the basic mode of operation is just the same today as it was at the time of its creation.
