GPS phone, Global navigation made in a cellphone

The GPS phone is a remarkable piece of technology. Not that many years ago, GPS units were bulky and expensive boxes, only affordable for professional uses like aeronautics and maritime transport. It’s hard to believe that it has now become a common thing that is embedded in most cell GPS phones around the world.

If you think about it, it was the next logical step. People started using Bluetooth GPS modules paired to their cell phones and smart phones. Navigation software than once required powerful desktop computers can now run on those small devices (that are now several times more powerful than a regular computer dating a couple of years). So, instead of carrying two devices, the phone and the wireless GPS receiver, why not place it all in a single package the GPS phone?

That’s exactly what manufacturers did, and it experienced an immediate success. It won’t be long before every new cell phone around comes with GPS tracking and navigation built in. In fact, there are places where it is already required for cell phones to have GPS. In any case, you just need to remember you’ll never need to ask for directions again - just let your "GPS phone" lead the way.
